Fellow participants include HumanKind and SLO Yoga Center, among others.
The press is invited to attend the ceremony, slated for Tuesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. via remote Zoom Webinar teleconference. See log-in information at the bottom of this press release for additional details. SLO’s own Fair Trade Towns Committee is composed of Kasey Main (SLO Food Co-op), LynAnne Weist (HumanKind), Miles Nelson (Pastor of Grace Central Coast) and Steph Stackhouse (Owner of SLO Yoga Center).
SLO Food Co-op was also recently named as a Green Business by the California Green Business Network San Luis Obispo. The community-owned grocery store is committed to creating a thriving and sustainable local food economy. Supporting eco-conscious and ethical businesses has been a top priority for years.
“Supporting Fair Trade at the co-op has always been a part of our daily approach to how we do business, celebrating our local and international farm workers through the equitable products we provide,” said SLO Food Co-op Communications Coordinator Kasey Main. “It’s even more exciting to see that our community and local government feels the same.”

About the Fair Trade Towns Committee
In 2020, Cal-Poly student Grace Burnite coordinated a Fair Trade Towns Committee to make San Luis Obispo a nationally recognized Fair Trade Town. She was inspired by the Fair Trade movement and said that she felt a proclamation made by the city council would inform and propel SLO's purchasing power, and increase diversity and equity for farmers across the globe and within our city through fair wages, practices and improved workplace conditions.
