This Julyand August, SLO Food Co-op will be giving 2% of each Tuesday's total sales to R.A.C.E. Matters SLO. Each month, a new and worthy nonprofit will be chosen by the Co-op community.

“We want to see our community thrive and grow. That's why we'll be giving back to a different local nonprofit each month with our 2% Tuesdays program,” said General Manager Zack Sheppard. “ R.A.C.E. Matters SLO is an incredible local nonprofit working to bring about better racial equality and opportunity to all. We stand together in unity.”

SLO Food Co-op is currently open 8-11 a.m. for curbside service, 10-11 a.m. for high risk shoppers and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for general shopping. Mask usage is required.

R.A.C.E. Matters SLO is proud to be a Black-led, multiracial organization, and work to keep people of color in the majority of their steering committee. They believe in:

  • Prioritizing the voices, views, and needs of Black, and other people of color within their organization and in the community. They feature Black authors, artists, academics, and other special guests of color at their events.

  • Transformation: They strive to dismantle oppression in order to achieve racial justice.

  • Inviting White people to challenge White supremacy — both personal and institutional. White steering committee members and volunteers are charged with engaging other White folks in this work.

  • Standing with all marginalized and oppressed communities including but not limited to LGBTQ+, Muslims, immigrants of all statuses, the disabled, and mentally ill. They make themselves available for support and rapid response to social injustice.

  • Celebrating diversity and push for inclusion, equity, and justice in all dimensions of society and human experience.
